Cancer (June 21st - July 22nd) The Evolved and Unevolved Traits

Happy Summer Equinox - especially to Cancers! Kicking off the Summer, Cancer is the first Zodiac of the season. Making Cancer a cardinal water sign that is associated with the crab. This zodiac can be seen as shy and "in their shell." They're also known for their warm motherly nature, for being caring, and can feel like home to those around them. Cancer does rule over the 4th House in Astrology, which has to do with your home life, relationship with your mom, and family overall.  Depending on where (and if) Cancer is in your big 6* in your zodiac chart, this can show up in different ways!

The “big 6” in Astrology refers to one’s Ascendant, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, or Venus placement.

Cancer Crab Astrology

Depending on if a native is evolved or unevolved within placements, these placements can show up in different ways other than the "standard" associations. Being evolved means that one is more grounded and "mature" in a certain area of life. While being unevolved means that one may be out of balance or have more growth to do in a certain area of life.

Ascendant

The Ascendant (also referred to as one’s rising sign) is determined by the exact time that you were born. As this does change about every two hours, it’s important to have the correct, exact time! The time itself can help determine the degree of your Ascendant sign. The Ascendant is represented in your Astrology chart in your 1st House! The House of Self.

Evolved: Cancer is an extremely caring sign, whose first instinct in life is to nurture those around them. They’re very kind, and perhaps even soft-spoken. When evolved, they’ll make sure everyone around them is taken care of, including themselves. Cancer’s have all the empathy in the world for those around them!

Unevolved: When unevolved, Cancers can tend to be unsure of themselves and their environments around them. They can even be very timid. Some feel that when this sign is unevolved, it can be hard to gauge them or get to know them overall. Cancer when imbalanced can be emotionally triggered by little things.

Sun

The Sun in Astrology is seen as the center of everything, just as it is seen in our solar system! It represents your inner self, and can define aspirations and what you want from life. It can also be used to focus on the source of your vitality! Your Sun sign is determined by the day that you were born. This is a sign that is humble and will not present themselves in a manner that would put others down.

Evolved: Cancer Suns have a way of “shining” on those around them with their nurturing energy. When evolved, this more shy sign will be more willing to go out and try new things! They’ll want to come out of their shell more and venture into the environment away from them but always have a deep love for coming back home.

Unevolved: If unevolved, you’ll notice a heightened sense of emotional validation to feel secure. When they receive a lack of validation, they’ll in turn become very hurt in various situations in life around them. As this sign is known to be more emotional within the Zodiacs, they can come across as overbearing and emotionally controlling. When out of balance, Cancer Suns can also feel as if the world can’t be trusted, which causes them to further seclude themselves.

Moon

The Moon in Astrology is what can show us where we are more emotional and where our needs are. It can also provide one with what their emotional wants and powers are. Knowing this can provide more insight into ways to strengthen ourselves emotionally and know what to be mindful of for improvement! Additionally, the Moon is one of the most important aspects for children, as it shows what they need the most. The Moon is determined by the precise location of where it was in the sky when you were born.

Evolved: An evolved Cancer Moon feels like having some of your Grandma’s cooking. It feels like a warm hug and fresh apple pie. This placement is inclined to be super nurturing and aware of everyone’s needs and makes sure to meet them. This is a very emotional Moon to have. This is the placement that is the definition of “wearing your heart on your sleeve.” They’re always willing to lend a helping hand and offer support when needed.

Unevolved: Unknowingly, Cancer Moons when unevolved can come off as manipulative to get what they want out of a situation. This could look like simply restricting the full truth or hiding their own emotions. Due to Cancer’s deep sense of care, you can also see this placement become very defensive/possessive over their loved ones to an extreme. As a result, Cancer Moons lean towards more of a jealous side that gets their feelings hurt more easily.

Mercury

The planet of communication, learning, and writing - basically anything that involves how the mind works! Since Mercury is closest to the Sun, it will also be in the same sign or within one sign away from your Sun sign.

Evolved: Having a Cancer Mercury when evolved can mean being a naturally empathetic and intuitive mind. This sign needs to trust their gut, but when evolved they don’t have issues with doing so. Another factor to look at for an evolved Cancer Mercury is if they’ve released harmful ways of thinking from their belief systems learned from those around them.

Unevolved: If unevolved, Cancer Mercurys can often come off as too emotional or shy when communicating with others. They can also tend to be hesitant to “come out of their shell” or comfort zone to learn further topics they’re unaware of. You’ll notice that they tend to stick within what they know overall when unevolved.

Venus

The planet of love and femininity! In one’s chart, this can show how they go about romantic relationships, and how they express/see beauty and artistry. Venus is determined by where it was in the sky when you were born. Venus is in one zodiac sign for about 30 days before moving into the next sign.

Evolved: Cancer Venus loves by nurturing those around them like a mother would! When evolved, they love sharing their space with those they love and making others feel like they’re at home away from their own home. This is a huge love language in itself for Cancer. Cancer here is very selfless and willing to give everything to their loved ones.

Unevolved: When Cancer Venus is unevolved, they can have more of a tendency to control situations in ways that benefit them the best. In search of stability and assurance, they could come off as more attached than their usual ways.

Mars

Mars rules over masculinity in Astrology! This planet is all about taking action, being assertive, and one’s impulses. Similar to Venus, Mars is determined by where exactly in the sky it was when you were born. However, it usually takes about two months in a sign before it changes to the next. It also goes retrograde about every 26 months, which is why it’s important to know your exact birth time!

Evolved: Cancer Mars knows how to properly protect those that they love. They’re good at making moves within their comfort zone, especially if it involves family or their home. This placement is indicative of someone who is fiercely loyal as well.

Unevolved: When unevolved, Cancer Mars can tend to lean more towards getting passive-aggressively annoyed instead of being direct with what’s bothering them. This placement can also oftentimes struggle to be assertive when taking actions if unevolved. Having a lack of confidence and not wanting to leave their comfort can create a struggle when it comes to going after what they want.
